PONTOKOMI project
2018 - 2025
PONTOKOMI project is about the ex ante collection of the memory of Pontokomi village, in Kozani, Western Macedonia, Greece.
The settlement of Pontokomi is located a few meters from the Public Power Company's mine and the Steam-Electric Power Factory in the residency of Kozani (western Greece). In order for the Public Power Comany to use the lignite from the subsoil of the settlement, the residents must leave their homes and relocate in other places, near or not.
The project includes many different actions concerning the preservation of the community's collective memory, such as an ethnographic documentary titled "Pontokomi: the decisive moment" and the online map of the settlement.
The documentary "PONTOKOMI project: the decisive moment" is an attempt to capture the residents' thoughts, feelings and emotions about their relocation and the fact that their village is about to be fully and irreversibly destroyed. The 4 minute documentary is -in a way- a teaser for the feature length documentary we are about to produce, and are currently looking for funding.
